On November 7, 2012 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., the HBS Parent Association will host a screening of the documentary Miss Representation, preceded by a very brief HBSPA meeting. Written and directed by Jennifer Siebel Newsom, the film examines how mainstream media contributes to the under-representation of women in positions of power and influence in America. The film challenges the media’s limited and often disparaging portrayals of women and girls, which make it difficult for women to achieve leadership positions and for the average woman to feel powerful herself. We have invited HBS faculty and staff, Explorations staff and the broader RIC community to the screening, and hope that the film will yield a productive discourse within our school and beyond. For more details, please visit http://www.missrepresentation.org/ or watch the trailer below. Child care will be available with Ms. Saga in the library for HBS families for $5 per child. If you would like child care please email Ms. Saga as soon as possible, and in any event before the end of the day on Monday November 5, 2012. Finally, please let me know by return email if you plan to attend, as the size of the audience will impact our planning as to chairs, snacks and refreshments.
