Dear Barnard Families,
Whether this is your child’s first year at the Henry Barnard School or your family has been part of the Barnard community for years, I am pleased to be part of welcoming you to the 2012-2013 school year. We look forward to a fun and rewarding year for our children, our families, and our dedicated faculty, staff and administration.
The Henry Barnard School Parent Association (HBSPA), www.hbspa.org, is a parent-run organization dedicated to helping foster a welcoming and stimulating community for the children and families of the Henry Barnard School. We provide additional funding to the faculty, staff and administration of the school to obtain materials and resources not otherwise attainable within budget constraints (such as laptops, computers, laminating machines, digital cameras/projectors, musical instruments, yearbook, yoga, Handwriting Without Tears, etc.), host a variety of activities for the children and families throughout the year (Reading Week, Diversity Week, Book Fairs, Fifth Grade Graduation, RIC Homecoming, and the Kids Choice Dance to name a few), and serve as a liaison body between individual students/parents/guardians and the faculty/staff/administration.
As a parent or guardian of a Henry Barnard student, you are already a valued member of the HBSPA, and we would love to receive your input throughout the year. Please consider further supporting the Association by volunteering your time for events, attending HBSPA meetings and paying your HBSPA dues. Like most communities, the more you invest in Henry Barnard, the more you and your child(ren) will receive from the experience.
On the first day of school, August 24, the HBSPA will host a welcome table at the beginning and end of the day, as well as a welcome coffee in the Teacher’s Lounge from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. We encourage both new and returning families to come, meet new faces, and catch up with old friends.
HBSPA meetings, which are open to all members of the Barnard community, will be held in the Teacher’s Lounge the second Thursday of every month, from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., with the first meeting on September 13. Please attend if you can, or feel free to let me know if you have any issue or concern that you feel the Association should consider.
In the meantime, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
